The last time La Vega's Pirates took the field, they fell one game short of the state championship.
Now, coach Don Hyde has taken over for Willie Williams, quarterback Jamal Williams is gone, and expectations haven't changed for the program.
La Vega still returns one of the most experienced defenses in Texas, with multiple players that have more than 30 games of varsity experience.
Offensively, Hyde says the team has enough talent to match anyone. They just need a quarterback that gets it.
"We're just looking for a kid that can manage the game for us. Even if he's young don't get out there and think you have to win the game, just manage the game."
The Pirates will get a chance to show off their re-tooled offense week one when they host Medina Valley.
