The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor volleyball team has been picked to win the West Division in the American Southwest Conference’s Preseason Poll. The Cru totaled 133 points and 19 first-place votes in balloting of the ASC coaches and sports information directors.
Concordia Texas was predicted the West Division Runner-Up with 92 points, followed by McMurry University in third with 90 points and three first-place votes. Hardin-Simmons was fourth with 76 points and one first-place vote while Howard Payne and Sul Ross State rounded out the division in fifth and sixth with 51 points and 24 points, respectively.
In the East Division, UT Dallas was the front-runner with 115 points and 23 first-place votes. East Texas Baptist was second with 91 points, followed by LeTourneau with 61 points and Belhaven with 53 points. Louisiana College was fifth with 25 points. UT Tyler also competes in the East Division but is ineligible for the ASC regular season title or championship as they reclassify to Division II.
UMHB finished the 2017 season as the ASC Runners-Up with a 28-5 overall record and 15-1 mark in conference play. UMHB returns six letterwinners from last year’s squad under head coach Rob Frost. The Cru opens the season with a pair of matches at the UT Dallas Tournament on Friday, August 31st.
