The Axtell Longhorns are tired of losing.
Thankfully though, they're returning a solid number of guys on both sides of the football this year, something Head Coach Eric Blenden said will help his team be more flexible adjusting on the fly in games.
"This year they understand the importance of practice, and conditioning and summer workouts were really good this year. So, you know, a lot of the little things such as not going hard on certain plays is being handled by the players now, and we can work on the finer details as coaches," Longhorns Head Coach Eric Blenden said.
The Horns feel as though they are days ahead of where they were at this point last year and are aiming to be more competitive this season in order to give themselves a chance to finish games and throw some more in the win column.
"We're just a small 2A. We don't have the biggest team, but you get kids getting in and going hard, it makes everyone. It gets gears churning," Nick Watkins, senior tight end/defensive end, said.
"We have a really good defense. Our offense is pretty good. It's pretty good, pretty dang good. We just got to capitalize on the team, work everybody. It's gonna be a little bit of a challenge, but I think we got it," Taylor Cantrell, senior Longhorn offensive and defensive lineman, said.
The longhorns are in a new district. So, they are taking it game by game and will prepare each week as though it's for the best team on the schedule.
First up... Dawson.
