The last time we saw Mart's Panthers they were hoisting a gold ball after capturing the state championship.

That was 2A division one and now coach Kevin Hoffman's team has dropped down to division two.

Despite losing seven seniors that were key to the number one offense in Texas, expectation is for the Panthers to be just as good if not better than last season.

"There's nothing different we're still going to play fast and play strong and do what we have to do to you know hopefully make another run at a state championship. That's the ultimate goal Every year that's the goal if you're a Mart Panther is to get that state championship," said junior linebacker Preston Lane.

Those expectations could breed overconfidence, but as coach Hoffman says they expect success in Mart and the only goals that matter are the ones this team has set for itself.

"Last year we felt the pressure. The team we had last year was predominately the kids that went 12-0 the year before and lost and we used it as motivation. We will continue to use that as motivation this year. Last year's team wasn't perfect they were 15 and 1 -- we would all like to be 16 and 0 this year. That's the goal, to win, to be 1 and 0 every week and take these things as they come."

Mart is already the number one ranked 2A division 2 team in the state. Our first look at them will be August 31st against Bosqueville.
