Newly completed lanes are signaling the end of a TxDOT project in Waco that began in 2016.

TxDOT will open the lanes on the southbound side of FM 1637, China Spring Road, on Sunday, July 29. The traffic pattern signals will also be changed.

Ken Roberts, a spokesperson for TxDOT Waco District, said the project is meant to increase safety and efficiency for this growing part of the city by widening the previous two-lane roadway to a four-lane with a raised median.

"When you look at the area, there's been tremendous growth and as a result, we have to be able to accommodate that," Roberts said. "It's going to be a very nice facility out there."

Roberts said the entire project should be completed later this fall.

In the meantime, motorists are encouraged to continue to watch for construction workers and avoid distracted driving while passing through the area.
