Nolanville police have released the real identity of the woman who was struck and killed while hitchhiking on July 21.

41-year-old Rhonda Lenel Richardson was killed while walking on Interstate 14 near the Paddy Hamilton overpass. Police originally misidentified her because she was found with the ID of a 54-year-old Killeen woman.

Police said Richardson and a friend were trying to hitchhike to Austin around 1:14 a.m. when she was hit by a red Honda driven by a 26-year-old man.

She was declared dead and taken to Dallas County Medical Examiners Office where they discovered she was a different woman, a 42-year-old white woman from the Amarillo area.

Police are now trying to locate the woman whose ID they found.

The 26-year-old driver was questioned and released. Police said no charges against him have been filed at this time.

Police added the friend the woman was hitchhiking with was also questioned and no charges are pending for her.
