SLIDESHOW: 2019 Fire near Belton/ Temple
Crews are battling a grass fire near a Temple neighborhood.
A spokeswoman with the Texas A&M Forest Service said that a fire happened just after 1:30 p.m. near the area of Windmill Farms in Temple.
Officials say approximately 300 acres have been burned.
Crews are still on scene. As of 9:36 p.m., 90 percent of the fire was contained. Over 150 homes are threatened.
Temple fire said crews will remain on scene overnight mopping up hot spots.
Officials on scene said that two homes had to be "mandatorily" evacuated, while 25 others were "highly suggested" to evacuate.
Temple police said that officers were assisting with home evacuations. Residents in the Windmill Farms area are asked to not return home until given the "all-clear." Those living near Orion Road are being allowed to return to their homes, but the fire is not 100 percent contained.
Four firefighters were taken to an area hospital. Officials say three are being treated for heat-related illnesses and another for a sprain.
The Gatesville Fire Department said fire crews are in need of water, sports drinks, snacks and hygiene items such as chapstick and diaper wipes. They said people can drop them off at any local fire department, they will make its way to crews in need.
Several churches have opened their doors to evacuees: First Foundation Methodist and Vista Community Church.
