A new football coach has been named for Waco High.
The job has been vacant for more than two weeks since Marty Herbst retired a day before the deadline.
Kwame Cavil was selected for the job.
Sometimes you just can’t forget your hometown and the Waco Lions are glad alum turned Head Coach Cavil felt that way.
“Kwame is a student of the game,” Ed Love, Waco High principal, said. “As both a player and a coach, Kwame has shown that he knows how to produce results. He has a track record of bringing out the very best in student-athletes – not just as competitors on the field but also as leaders in their community.”
Cavil was a defensive back for the Lions in the mid 90’s, accepted a scholarship to the University of Texas, and then played professionally in the NFL and CFL.
6A schools can open fall camp starting Aug. 6, but before then Cavil has to finish putting together his coaching staff.
