Waco High School football coach Marty Herbst will be retiring at the end of the month after 26 years of coaching at the school.

He said that he will take a year off, and then he will decide whether or not he wants to return to coaching.

For the last six years, Herbst was the head football coach. He also taught physical education and coached track.

Before joining the staff at Waco High School, Herbst was an assistant coach in Bay City.

Offense Coordinator Ryan Graves has applied for the head coach position.

Kyle Debeer with Waco ISD said the opening has already been posted. Athletic Director Johnny Tusa will be serving as the school's interim head coach until the position is filled.
