The man who died after an early morning crash on Interstate 35 near Salado has been identified by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
DPS said a pickup truck driven by James Arrick Jr., 32, ran off the road in the southern part of the city and crashed into another 18-wheeler. Arrick was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a police officer for the Calvert Police Department.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was not injured in the crash. The 18-wheeler was parked on the shoulder of the interstate.
The crash happened on the northbound side near exit 281 around 3:10 a.m.
