A man originally from Central Texas drowned while trying to rescue a calf that had fallen into a pond in North Texas, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram said.
The Star-Telegram said 29-year-old Coyote "Cody" Rooster Renner was working on a ranch in Cleburne when he saw the calf go into a stock tank.
Cleburne Fire Chief Keith Scarbrough told the newspaper the stock tank could have been a factor in Renner's death because it tends to be muddier than a typical lake. Stock tanks are small ponds used for watering livestock.
Scarbrough also said Renner was wearing jeans and cowboy boots when his body was recovered, which could have also contributed.
According to a GoFundMe set up by the family, Renner was originally from Robinson, where his parents and some siblings still live.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey Renner, and two daughters aged 6 and 22 months. The couple is also expecting a third daughter, due August 28.
"His world consisted of working with animals, following Jesus Christ and loving his amazing family," the GoFundMe says. "His family is grieving, questioning, and working to make sense of a tragedy that has shattered their world."
The Star-Telegram said the calf survived the incident.
