The Food Care Center in Killeen, who has been serving the community for 31 years, is in serious need of donations.
Within the last year alone, 52,000 people have been served up to 1.6 million pounds of food. The food center typically serves 6,400 people each month.
Now that kids are out of school, that number increases. This summer, the Food Care Center expects to serve over 9,500 clients, 2,200 of which will be children.
Luckily, every dollar donated can purchase seven meals. Raymond Cockrell, the Executive Director of the Food Care Center in Killeen, said if they can't get donations, they may run out of food soon.
"We cannot sustain the increase in demand that we've seen for food and groceries going forward," Cockrell said. "As it is right now, we'll probably run out before the end of the month, unless we can make a substantial increase in purchases at our Central Texas Food Bank."
If you'd like to donate, here are three ways you can contribute:
- Donate via PayPal on their website
- Mail a check to P.O. Box 1656 Killeen, TX 76540-1656
- Drop off food donations
