Man robs Whataburger at gunpoint, leads authorities on two-hour chase

Round Rock police said a man is now in custody after he robbed a Whataburger at gunpoint and led authorities on a two-hour long chase.

Police said Anis Behnamiri Masomian, of Austin, robbed the restaurant in Round Rock around 3:30 a.m. He then led authorities on a chase on northbound Interstate 35 until he fled his 2011 Ford Taurus on foot near Weber's Gun Range in Troy.

Major T.J. Cruz with the Bell County Sheriff's Department said at some point during the chase, the suspect's vehicle was spiked.

With the help of DPS state troopers, Bell County deputies, police were able to arrest Masomian around 5:30 a.m. after he laid down in the grass attempting to conceal himself, Cruz said.

The incident caused significant traffic backups on I-35 on Friday morning.
