The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team placed 11 players on the American Southwest Conference All-Conference Teams released Monday (May 7th). The Cru had one First Team selection, placed four players on the Second Team, received five Third Team honorees and had one player earn Honorable Mention.
Linsey Tomlinson was the Cru’s lone representative on the All-Conference First Team. Tomlinson, a sophomore outfielder from Huffman Hargrave High School, became just the second player in conference history to hit 10 or more home runs and steal 20 or more bases in the same season this year. She batted .301 and led UMHB with 10 homers, 22 stolen bases and she added 36 RBI on the year.
Makenzi Dawson, Devon Walter, Avery Kelly and Hannah Halepaska all claimed spots on the All-Conference Second Team. Dawson, a junior shortstop from Robinson High School, batted .336 with 25 RBI and 14 stolen bases. She also led the Cru with four triples. Walter, a senior outfielder from Southlake Carroll High School, hit .333, tied with Tomlinson for the team lead with 10 home runs and topped UMHB with 39 RBI. Walter also had team highs with 85 total bases, 13 doubles and a .675 slugging percentage. Kelly, a sophomore outfielder from Georgetown High School, batted .313 with three homers and 19 RBI. Halepaska, a sophomore pitcher from Orange Grove High School, topped the Cru with a 16-5 record. Halepaska recorded a 2.51 ERA and struck out 53 batters in a team-best 131.1 innings of work.
Emily Bounds, Kasi Cummings, Karen Tennis, CeCe Darilek and Hannah Wolfe were all voted to the All-Conference Third Team. Bounds, a junior catcher from Moody High School, started all 43 games and hit .313 with 11 doubles and 19 RBI. Cummings, a junior second baseman from Grandview High School, batted .331 with three homers and 21 RBI. Tennis, a senior pitcher from Bay Area Christian High School, went 8-5 with a team-best 2.36 ERA. Darilek, a sophomore pitcher from Shiner High School, was 5-4 with a 2.56 ERA. Wolfe, a sophomore first baseman from Robinson High School, led the Cru with a .373 batting average and added three home runs and 17 RBI despite missing the first ten games of the season with an injury.
Kourtney Cummings was named Honorable Mention All-Conference at designated player. Cummings, a junior from Grandview High School, batted .285 with three home runs and 24 RBI on the season.
Walter and Tennis are three-time All-Conference selections. This is the second All-Conference honor for Tomlinson, Dawson and Kourtney Cummings. Kelly, Halepaska, Bounds, Darilek, Wolfe and Kasi Cummings are all first time All-Conference honorees.
UMHB finished the 2018 season at 29-14 overall and the Cru was 21-8 in ASC play. UMHB advanced to the ASC Championship Tournament and finished with a 1-2 record as the #3 seed.
