Temple Wildcat Athletics is excited to announce Coach Michael Thomas will join the Temple High School coaching staff as the next Head Boys Basketball Coach.

Coach Thomas brings a progressive vision to continue to grow the Temple Boys Basketball program, adding to this program’s storied history.

Temple ISD Athletic Direct Scott Stewart describes Thomas as a "straight up winner!"

"I love the way he talks about the importance of both physical and mental toughness as critical components of a winning program that develops well rounded student athletes," Coach Stewart said.

Coach Thomas is from Beaumont and a graduate of Clifton J. Ozen High School, where he also served the last two seasons as the head basketball coach leading his team to Bi-District Championships both years.

"What attracted me to the job is the family atmosphere, the opportunity to grow myself and give these kids the opportunity to be a part of something special," Coach Thomas said.

Before taking over as head coach, Thomas served as the Assistant/Associate Head Coach at Ozen for 10 years, twice appearing in the state finals.

His high school state championship experience doesn’t end there. Thomas won a state title while playing basketball for Ozen in 2001, when the team compiled a perfect 36-0 record.

"Coach Thomas has state tourney experience as a player and coach," Coach Stewart said.

"He’s the real deal. This man can go!"

"It’s always awesome to win big, and I think I can bring that back to the community and to the program," said Thomas. "We’re going to strive for perfection. That’s how I approach what I do. I strive for perfection. We may never get there, but we will always strive for it."

Pending approval of the Temple ISD Board of Trustees, Coach Thomas will be hired in May and will join the staff in Temple at the end of current school year.
