The McLennan Highlassies and No. 3 Temple Lady Leopards split this afternoon’s conference doubleheader at Bosque River Ballpark.
Temple defeated McLennan 3-0 in game one with Victoria Vasquez taking the loss in the circle for the Highlassies.
The Lady Leopards’ first run came in the top of the fourth inning as Lindsey Taylor was hit by the pitch, moved to second on a single by Kylie Mica, advanced to third on a Haley Moore walk, and scored on a fielder’s choice by Tiera Lee.
Temple rounded out the scoring with two runs in the sixth. Skye Koehl walked and moved to second on a ground out by Kaitlyn Jones. Daisy Gonzales followed with a single to score Koehl, and Gonzales scored on a triple by Lee.
McLennan bounced back to defeat the Lady Leopards 2-1 in the nightcap with Emily Klanika getting the win in the circle.
The Lady Leopards’ only run came in the top of the second. Kelsie Murie singled and Koehl drew a walk. Both runners advanced on stolen bases. Jones then singled to score Murie.
The Highlassies scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth to steal the win. Cassie Pavlas and Kaitlin Richards both doubled. Genisa Marrero-Carter followed with a double of her own, scoring Pavlas and Richards.
McLennan will close out the regular season Saturday with a noon doubleheader against North Central in Gainesville.
