For 40 years, Joe Lombardi has described the action during Copperas Cove football games. He's been there for big wins, upsets, and has been able to watch the growth of the Copperas Cove football program throughout the years.
He’s known to Copperas Cove Bulldawg fans as "Big Joe" - a nickname given to him when he first started his career in Temple.
Lombardi said when we first started this in 1978, there wasn’t a whole lot to cheer about, but over the last 25 years or so things have looked up.
Lombardi has been a part of two state championship games and 13 straight years of making the playoffs. During the last four decades, he’s seen many talented players, some of those who have played at the NFL level - including Heisman winner and former Baylor bear standout, Robert Griffin III.
Lombardi said he doesn’t plan to retire anytime soon and hopes to do what he does for as long as he can.
He says, “when you have a chance to watch great athletes play, it makes you feel good.”
