Slideshow: Women dressed as 'handmaids' from popular television show protest at state capitol
Women gathered at the state capitol on the first day of the Texas legislative special session to protest.
During the protest, some women dressed in red like the characters from Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale. The Handmaid's Tale is based on the book by Margaret Atwood.
The women are advocating for the pro-choice cause.
State officials say the women can stay and protest if they remain peaceful.
Several groups organized at the state capitol to protest Gov. Greg Abbott and Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick's agenda.
"The Texas Republicans' agenda has put our families in peril," said Texas Democratic Party Executive Director Crystal K. Perkins in a statement.
