A 22-year Waco Police veteran Sgt. Scott Holt was promoted to Commander Thursday afternoon.

Holt started as a Waco Patrol Officer in February 1995. During his time with the Waco Police Department, he has worked in several areas. In 1999, Holt was selected to be one of the officers to begin the Traffic Unit.

He later tested to be a detective. He served in the Crimes Against Children Unit where he was promoted to Sergeant.

Holt is a field training officer and a defensive tactics instructor. He has also received several awards including the Life Saving Award, Presidential Protection Award, Certificate of Merit and the School of Police Supervision Bar. He also received the Supervisor of the Year Award twice and the Meritorious Unit Award twice.

Holt said he is looking forward to serving the community in this new role.

"22 years ago I never thought I would achieve this honor. Which is exactly what it is. It's an honor. A lot of hard work, tears and joy have gone into it. But it is a true honor," Commander Holt said.

Commander Holt will now serve on the patrol unit.
