College Station police have arrested a man for the murder of a Texas A&M student.

Police said they were able to obtain a warrant for the arrest of Victor Manuel Garcia-Loyo for murder with the cooperation of the Fort Worth Police Department.

The investigation showed that Garcia-Loyo was dating the victim, Maricarmen Quiroz-Octaviano.

After speaking to Garcia-Loyo, police said he agreed to come to College Station to be interviewed, but never arrived.

After working with Fort Worth police, officers located the suspect. Officers said they found him with a 9mm handgun and what appeared to be a gunshot wound to his hand.

When College Station police interviewed Garcia-Loyo, they said he confessed to shooting Maricarmen several times during an argument in her apartment on Sept. 16. He shot himself in the hand during the incident.

Garcia-Loyo was charged with murder and is in the Brazos County Jail.

The investigation is still active, and detectives ask for anyone with information on this event to call the College Station Police Department at 979-764-3600.
