The Killeen Independent School District is looking to hire bus drivers and monitors for the 2016-2017 school year as soon as possible.
The district wrote on their Facebook page that they would pay for a commercial driver's license and training to anyone who is hired as a driver along with a $400 signing bonus.
The base pay for a KISD bus driver is $13.37 and $9.12 for monitors.
The district sent out this statement Tuesday afternoon about the shortage:
Like many districts throughout the state, we are experiencing a shortage of
qualified bus drivers. However, our administrative staff is making every effort to
meet the district’s transportation needs in the meantime. The district currently
transports over 12,000 students and covers almost 16,000 miles daily. The
planning and scheduling is very complex and we appreciate our parents and
guardians’ patience during these first few weeks. The district is fortunate to
have certified substitute drivers to fill some of these vacancies. We are actively
recruiting drivers and we will continue to offer signing bonuses to those interested
in driving a school bus for the district. More information can be found by visiting

Both positions are for 6 hours during the week with weekends and holidays off. The school year ends May 30, 2017.
