Posted

The City of Troy hired a new police chief – recently retired Temple Police Chief Gary Smith.

Current Police Chief Keith Reed announced his retirement last month.

Smith worked with the Temple Police Department for 38 years with work experience ranging from police dispatcher to SWAT team commander.

Smith is a Texas A&M alum and is a 2001 graduate of the FBI National Academy. Smith has also served five consecutive terms as president of the Central Texas Association of Chiefs of Police and Sheriffs.

“I am extremely excited at Chief Smith’s decision to lead the Troy Police Department,” City Administrator Jeff Straub said. “I have known Gary for many years and have never met a better person, law enforcement practitioner or police administrator. Troy is extremely fortunate to have Chief Smith coming to work as an integral member of our city staff.”

Smith with start on April 12.
