WACO, TX — The Central Texas high school football season is finally drawing to a close.

The Temple Wildcats came into the night as the only Central Texas team still playing football. So why not play on Central Texas' grandest stage?

The Wilcats were looking for their first area round win since 2017, and their first as a 6A program.

But in the first quarter, things did not look good.

Heath quarterback Josh Hoober hit Jay Fair on the long touchdown pass, 63 yards for the 7-0.

In the next drive, Heath was on the move. This time, it would be Preston Landis who would carry for 18 yards and the touchdown to cap a 97-yard drive. Heath was up 14-0.

But momentum would shift in the second. Samari Howard carried the ball up the middle 16-yards for a Temple touchdown. That cut the lead to seven.

The lead wouldn't last long. Hoover had a field day. He would connect with Fair again for a 47-yard touchdown.

With one minute left in the half, Humberto Arizmendi said anything you can do I can do better. He hit Tr'Darius Taylor for a 19-yard touchdown across the middle to AJ McDuffy.

The score would be 21-14 at the half.

It was back and forth all night, but in the end Heath would take it away 56-28.
