LEXINGTON, KY. — Former Texas A&M volleyball coach Laurie Corbelli was selected to the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Hall of Fame as announced by the organization Thursday. Corbelli coached at A&M from 1993-2017, amassing 519 wins, the most in school history.
“I would like to congratulate Laurie Corbelli on her Hall of Fame selection,” said Interim Athletics Director R.C. Slocum. “This is a well-deserved recognition of her outstanding career in the game of volleyball.”
Each year the AVCA recognizes individuals who reached the pinnacle of their profession and the sport with the AVCA Hall of Fame. This is the 17th annual AVCA Hall of Fame class, as Corbelli is joined by Doug Dannevik, Joel Dearling and Jodie Manore. This year’s inductees are honored at the 2019 Jostens Coaches Honors Luncheon, which is held in conjunction with the 2019 AVCA Convention in Pittsburgh, Pa. and makes a total of 84 members in the AVCA Hall of Fame.
Corbelli served as the head volleyball coach at Texas A&M for 25 years and was a collegiate head coach for 32 years, with prior stints at San Francisco and Santa Clara. She had a 519-252 record while at A&M and a 619-358 career record.
Under Corbelli’s leadership, she guided 14 first-, second- and third-team All-Americans, as well as 24 All-American honorable mentions. Individually, she garnered three AVCA Region Coach of the Year awards in 1992, 1995 and 2015 and six conference of the year honors.
Corbelli led the Aggies to within one match of reaching the Final Four in both 1999 and 2001 and led A&M to the NCAA Regional Semifinals six times. She won an SEC title in 2015 and an SEC West title in 2012.
In addition to her duties at A&M, Corbelli earned the honor of serving as USA Volleyball head coach for the U.S. Women’s Junior National Team in 2015 and 2016 having directed the 2016 USA squad to a silver medal at the NORCECA Women’s U20 Continental Championship.
Corbelli was a two-time AIAW Division II National Champion at Texas Lutheran and won a silver medal at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
