Aggies Beat Longhorns, 9-6

AUSTIN, TX — The No. 11 Texas A&M Aggies topped the No. 17 Texas Longhorns, 9-6, Tuesday evening at UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Aggies pounded out 14 hits, including two doubles and two home runs. The evening featured five two-out RBI, including two key insurance runs in the top of the ninth. The Maroon & White hit .467 (7-for-15) with two outs on the evening.

Jonathan Ducoff and Mikey Hoehner led the Aggies at the plate. Ducoff batted 3-for-5 with one run, one double, one home run and two RBI. Hoehner hit 3-for-5 with two runs, one home run and two RBI. Logan Foster batted 2-for-5 with one run and two RBI. Cam Blake and Braden Shewmake added two hits apiece.

Dustin Saenz (2-0) was outstanding on the mound, registering his best start as an Aggie. The southpaw worked 6.0 innings, yielding two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four. Kasey Kalich nailed down his seventh seven of the season, retiring all three batters he faced in the ninth, including one strikeout.

Texas A&M improved to 24-6-1 overall while the Longhorns dropped to 20-12.

The Aggies head to Baton Rouge for a three-game series against the LSU Tigers starting Friday. Game times are 7 p.m., 7 p.m. and 2 p.m.

SCORING SUMMARY
B1 | With two outs, Austin Todd doubled down the rightfield line and Zach Zubia drew a six-pitch walk. Ryan Reynolds knocked a ball into centerfield to plate Todd with the ice breaker. UT 1, A&M 0.

T2 | Ducoff deposited the first pitch of the inning into the Aggies’ bullpen down the leftfield line for his second dinger of the season. Ty Coleman followed with a single to centerfield and Mikey Hoehner blasted a 2-2 pitch over the fence in left-center for a two-run homer. With one out, Logan Foster reached on an infield single and with two outs Bryce Blaum was hit by a pitch. Cam Blake drove a single to centerfield to plate Foster. A&M 4, UT 1.

T4 | With two outs, Blaum and Blake shot singles to leftfield and rightfield, respectively, to put runners on the corners. Braden Shewmake followed with a double to leftfield, scoring Blaum. A&M 5, UT 1.

T6 | With two outs, Blake worked a five-pitch and stole second base. After Shewmake was hit by a pitch, Ducoff laced a single to score Blake and Shewmake came home when the Longhorns’ leftfielder misplayed the hit. A&M 7, UT 1.

B6 | Eric Kennedy hit a leadoff triple to centerfield. With one out, Zach Zubia drew a four-pitch walk. Kennedy came home to score when Reynolds bounced into an unconventional 3-6 double play with Kennedy touching the plate before Zubia was tagged on the slide. A&M 7, UT 2.

B7 | With one out, Masen Hibbeler singled to leftfield and Tate Shaw doubled down the rightfield line to put two in scoring position. Michael McCann shaved the lead to two with a three-run home run to leftfield. A&M 7, UT 5.

B8 | Todd gapped a lead-off double to left-center and came around to score with one out when Aggie first baseman Hunter Watson was unable to glove a throw to retire Reynolds on a grounder to third. A&M 7, UT 6.

T9 | With one out, Ty Coleman worked a five-pitch walk and Hoehner bounced a single through the right side. Will Frizzell was issued a base on balls to fill the bags with Ags. The second out of the inning was record when Coleman was tagged at home trying to score on a wild pitch, but Foster picked him up, delivering a two-run single up the middle. A&M 9, UT 6.
