COLLEGE STATION, TX — Texas A&M Softball defeated UT Arlington, 1-0, in a pitcher's duel Wednesday evening at Davis Diamond.
Kayla Poynter tossed the first complete-game shutout of her career, allowing just three hits and a walk while fanning one. The sophomore retired 10 of the last 11 batters she faced.
UTA’s pitcher, Randi Phillips, kept the Aggies (15-6) at bay for most of the game but one run proved to be all Texas A&M needed to take down the Mavericks. The lone run came in the fourth on a Blake-Ann Fritsch RBI to plate Taudrea Sinnie.
Kelbi Fortenberry, Haley Lee and Fritsch each recorded a hit while Payton McBride led the offense with two. Fortenberry reached base twice, extending her on-base streak to 13 and hitting streak to 11.
