Aggie baseball ready for Texas State

COLLEGE STATION, TX — No. 12 Texas A&M plays the first of only five April games scheduled for Olsen Field at Blue Bell Park on Tuesday when the Aggies host the Texas State Bobcats in a 6:32 p.m. contest.

Dustin Saenz takes the mound for the Aggies one week after his stellar performance in a 9-6 victory over the No. 17 Texas Longhorns. Saenz yielded just two runs on four hits and three walks while striking out four in 6.0 innings in front of nearly 8,000 fans at a raucous UFCU Disch-Falk Field.

The Aggies rank in the top 20 in the nation in numerous pitching categories, including strikeouts per nine innings (2nd - 11.3), K-to-BB ratio (3rd - 3.93), ERA (7th - 2.83), walks allowed per nine innings (10th - 2.86), WHIP (10th - 1.13), shutouts (15th - 4) and hits allowed per nine innings (19th - 7.33).

Individually, Asa Lacy ranks fourth in the nation in strikeouts (79) and strikeouts per nine innings (14.61) and 11th in hits allowed per nine innings (4.25) and 17th in ERA (1.29) and 30th in WHIP (0.88). John Doxakis ranks 7th in the nation in K-to-BB ratio (11.40) and 12th in walks allowed per nine innings (0.93). Kasey Kalich ranks 8th in the nation in saves with eight.

Braden Shewmake’s stellar play has him starting to enter the Aggies’ career top 10 lists. He now ranks ninth in career RBI (146) and 10th in career triples (10).
