COLLEGE STATION, TX — Texas A&M men’s tennis junior Valentin Vacherot was named the SEC Player of the Week by the league office Wednesday morning. Vacherot helped the Aggies improve to 9-1 in the SEC with wins over Kentucky and Vanderbilt last week.
“We are very happy with the way Val has been competing as of late,” Texas A&M head coach Steve Denton said. “He is playing with confidence and doing a much better job of playing each point. His game is really maturing.”
Vacherot, a Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France native, earned a trio of crucial singles victories last week. The junior ran his conference win streak to 10 matches, to remain perfect at 10-0 this season to tie for the league lead in wins and winning percentage. Overall, Vacherot has won six straight matches and 13 of his last 14 matches overall. During the 14 match stretch Vacherot has claimed nine straight set wins and three victories after dropping the first set.
With the 2-0 singles weekend, Vacherot improved to 10-0 in SEC play, securing wins in each of A&M’s conference matches to date. His wins at Kentucky and TCU brings his road win streak to seven matches.
Vanderbilt’s Macsen Sisam was named SEC Freshman of the Week.
Up next, A&M will round out the regular season at home against No. 6 Mississippi State on Friday and Ole Miss on Sunday.
