HOUSTON, TX — The Mercari Texas Bowl between TCU and Arkansas has been canceled due to COVID-19 issues within the TCU football program.

Organizers announced the cancellation via Twitter Tuesday.

In a statement, organizers stated an increased number of positive COVID-19 tests as well as other circumstances within the TCU football program led to the decision.

"While we are disappointed in canceling this year's game, we look forward to hosting both the Texas Kickoff and Texas Bowl next season," said David Fletcher, executive director. "We appreciate everyone's support, including our new title sponsor, Mercari."

The game was set to kick off on Thursday, December 31 at NRG Stadium in Houston.
