UMHB baseball tops UT-Dallas

UMHB baseball splits doubleheader

RICHARDSON, TX — The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team erupted for three multiple-run innings as the Cru posted an 11-7 victory over U.T.-Dallas Tuesday afternoon in Richardson. The game was a non-conference contest between the two American Southwest Conference programs.

UMHB jumped out to 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Malek Bolin doubled home the first run and the Cru added two more runs on a Comet error. Bolin added an RBI single in the top of the third to stretch it to 4-0. UTD scored single runs in the third and fourth to cut it to 4-2 before UMHB put four on the board in the top of the Landon Dieterich blasted a three-run homer to open the scoring and Jacob Dellipoali added a sacrifice fly to make it 8-2. The Cru pushed it to 10-2 when Dieterich tripled home a run and scored on Bolin’s single in the top of the sixth. The Comets scored a run in the bottom of that frame to close the gap to 10-3. Bolin scored on a passed ball in the top of the ninth to make it an 11-3 Cru lead. UTD rallied for four runs in the bottom of the ninth to make it interesting. Thomas Craig singled home a pair of runs and Aaron Fanning and Dylan Palmer both drew bases-loaded walks before Ross Baer worked out of a bases loaded jam to end it.

Caimyn Holiday had a career-high three hits for UMHB and scored four runs. Bolin added three hits while driving in three runs. Dieterich and Mitch Patterson had two hits apiece and Dieterich drove in four runs for the Cru. Bailey Whatley scattered seven hits and struck out four in five innings of relief to even his record at 1-1 for UMHB. Zach Jordan had three of the Comets’ 14 hits in the game. Orion Drymond took the loss for UTD.

UMHB improves to 6-18 on the season with the win while the Comets drop to 9-14 with the loss. The Cru will return to ASC action with a three-game series at McMurry this weekend in Abilene. The two teams will open that series with a 7 pm single game Friday before closing it out with a 1 pm doubleheader on Saturday.
