BELTON, TX — The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team gave up two big innings and could not answer in an 11-0 loss to UT Dallas Tuesday afternoon in Belton. The game was the home opener for the Cru. UMHB drops to 3-6 on the year with the loss while UTD improves to 5-6.
The game was scoreless into the top of the fourth inning before the Comets broke through on Ryan Burciaga’s RBI groundout. UTD put four on the board, highlighted by Thomas Craig’s three-run homer, to stretch the lead to 5-0. The Comets then tacked on six more runs in the top of the ninth to put the game out of reach. UMHB would put a runner in scoring position in each of the first six innings, but could not push across a run.
Bailey Whatley took the loss for the Cru to drop to 0-1 on the season. Caimyn Holiday had three of UMHB’s eight hits and Dawson Shibley added two hits. Jordan Box picked up the win in relief for UTD to go to 1-0. Craig had three hits and drove in four runs to lead a 12-hit attack for the Comets.
The Cru returns to action with the start of American Southwest Conference play this weekend. UMHB will take on Howard Payne in a three-game series starting with a 1 pm single game on Friday.
