WACO, TX — Robert D. Jacobus is an adjunct professor of history at Stephen F. Austin University and author of "Black Man in the Huddle: Stories from the Integration of Texas Football."
He started writing the book back in 2015, and it will hit book store shelves soon. But first, Jacobus will be a featured author at the Texas Sports Hall of Fame 3rd Annual Book Festival.
The event is set for Saturday, Aug. 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Admission is free, and featured authors will cycle through every thirty minutes to present their books and hold a Q&A session. For VIP tickets, email jay.black@tshof.org to reserve. "VIP ticket holders are entitled to preferred seating and signed book drawings." (Texas Sports Hall of Fame)
Jacobus spoke with Central Texas News Now before the festival to share some of the stories from his book. He traveled all over the state, interviewing over 240 African American athletes, many from Central Texas, who shared their experiences of integration in schools and on the football field.
