WACO, TX — The McLennan Highlanders pushed their winning streak to 18 with a pair of victories over the Cisco Wranglers this afternoon at Bosque River Ballpark.
McLennan came from behind in game one to defeat Cisco 4-3 in walk-off fashion. Trevor Munsch picked up the victory on the mound.
The Highlanders scored one run in the bottom of the third as Ryan Bishop singled, moved to second on a single by Jordan Yeatts, advanced to third on a balk and scored on a ground out by Jalen Battles.
Cisco took the lead with two runs in the fourth. Daniel Budke singled but was out at second on a fielder’s choice by Luke Cullum. Zach Sweet drew a walk. Both runners advanced on a McLennan error. Cullum scored on a balk, and Sweet scored on a single by Lukas Polanco.
The Wranglers added a run in the fifth as Bryce Holmes doubled, moved to third on a sacrifice by Bryson Hill and scored on a single by Christian Smith.
McLennan stole the win with three runs in the bottom of the seventh. Brooks Embry singled and scored on a double by Aidan Shepardson. Bishop was safe on a fielder’s choice. Shepardson scored on a sacrifice fly by Yeatts. Battles then doubled to score Bishop and win the game.
McLennan defeated Cisco 10-7 in the nightcap with Jack Driskell getting the win and Rene Ramos picking up the save.
Cisco once again took the early lead with six runs in the third inning. Cam Haller led off with a solo home run. Edward Ortiz bunted for a single and scored on a triple by Holmes. Holmes then scored on a sacrifice fly by Budke. Smith hit a solo home run and Sweet was safe on an error. Jacob Wyeth doubled to score Sweet, and Wyeth scored on a single by Hill.
The Highlanders got on the board with three runs in the bottom of the third. Yeatts walked, moved to second on a passed ball and scored on a single by Battles. Garrett Martin singled and Brett Squires tripled to scored Battles and Martin.
McLennan took the lead with six runs in the fourth. Shepardson doubled and scored on a single by Jaylen Williams. Yeatts doubled and Williams scored on a ground out by Battles. Cole Moore singled to score Yeatts. Martin walked and Squires was hit by the pitch, loading the bases. Embry was also hit by the pitch, bringing Moore in to score. Vince Ippoliti then singled to score Martin and Squires.
Another Highlander run scored in the fifth as Williams walked, stole second, moved to third on a passed ball and scored on a single by Martin.
Cisco rounded out the scoring with a run in the sixth. Wyeth drew a walk and moved to second on a wild pitch. Hill singled and Wyeth scored on a fielder’s choice by Haller.
The two teams will complete the four-game series with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday in Cisco.
