MCC Highlassies drop doubleheader to Weatherford

WACO, TX — The McLennan Highlassies dropped both games of today’s conference doubleheader with the Weatherford Lady Coyotes at Bosque River Ballpark.

Weatherford defeated McLennan 7-3 in the opening game with Emily Klanika taking the loss for the Highlassies in the circle.

The Lady Coyotes took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the second. Stephanie Jimenez led off with a single but was out at second on a fielder’s choice by Eliza Eberhard. Eberhard stole second and third. Kristin Kamnick reached safely on an error, bringing Eberhard in to score. Mylonee Becerra and Payton Salmon both singled to load the bases. Kamnick scored as Aubree Beggs reached on an error. Becerra then scored on a fielder’s choice by Marisa Cruz.

McLennan got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third as Kaelin Morkisch singled, moved to second on a passed ball, advanced to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kaitlin Richards.

Weatherford added two runs in the top of the sixth. Eberhard singled, Kamnick walked and Becerra was hit by the pitch to load the bases. Eberhard and Kamnick then scored on a passed ball.

Two more Lady Coyote runs scored in the top of the seventh. Eberhard singled and stole second. Kamnick followed with a single, scoring Eberhard. Kamnick advanced around to third on the throw and scored on a double by Becerra.

McLennan rounded out the scoring with two runs in the bottom of the seventh. Arianna Perales and Brooke Arnold both singled. Rebeca Fajardo drew a walk, loading the bases. Perales scored on a fielder’s choice by Charley Avery that put Fajardo out at second. Arnold then scored on a passed ball.

Weatherford took game two 5-3 with Destiny Guerra taking the loss for McLennan.

The Lady Coyotes scored three in the top of the first inning. Page walked and Jimenez singled. Eberhard followed with the three-run homer.

McLennan scored one in the bottom of the first. Olivia Lantigua was hit by the pitch and Richards walked. Sophie Wideman followed with the double to score Lantigua.

Weatherford’s final two runs came in the top of the second. Beggs reached first and moved to second on an error, and Cruz drew a walk. Both runners advanced on a ground out by Amanda Vallejo and scored on a single by Page.

The Highlassies added a run in the second as Avery tripled and scored on a single by Morkisch.

Arnold’s solo home run in the bottom of the fourth cut the lead to two, 5-3.

McLennan’s final run came in the bottom of the seventh. Morkisch and Lantigua both walked and advanced on a wild pitch. Morkisch then scored on a ground out by Richards.

Weather permitting, McLennan travels to Vernon Saturday for a noon doubleheader.
