BELTON, TEXAS — The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team completed a three-game sweep of University of the Ozarks with a 3-0 win over the Eagles Monday afternoon in Clarksville.
UMHB used a seventh-inning surge to earn the 3-0 win over the Eagles. Milly Cesare led off the inning, reaching on an error. Cesare advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt from Allie Dalle before taking third on a single from Emily Bounds. Cesare scored the game-winner off an RBI single from Kourtney Cummings. Kasi Cummings scored on the next at-bat as Jacqueline Kay hit a sacrifice fly before Bounds scored on an RBI from Alexis Galvan to put UMHB up by three. Ozarks recorded one hit in the bottom of the sixth but UMHB got out of the inning, securing the 3-0 win.
Galvan led the Cru with three hits while Bounds added two and four other Crusaders added one. Kathryn Reed earned the complete-game win in the circle for UMHB, throwing seven innings with four hits and no runs allowed. Reed struck out three in 29 batters faced and did not allow an extra-base hit. Candace Rogers took the loss for the Eagles, throwing seven innings with three runs allowed and one strikeout. UMHB totaled three runs on nine hits with one error while the Eagles had four hits and two errors.
UMHB returns to action on Friday, March 1st in a 4 p.m. doubleheader at LeTourneau University in Longview.
