CLIFTON, TX — Playoffs are tradition in Cub Country, and the Clifton Cubs are no stranger to their upcoming regional semi-final foe.
The Cubs had to get through Kirbyville last year in order to make their first-ever state appearance.
Senior Jackson Phillips believes the team is peaking at just the right time, and said it's largely in part to their playoff experience.
"A lot of us are used to this stage and used to the moment, so we're just gonna try to cooperate and build off of that from last year," Phillips, a senior short stop and pitcher for the Cubs, said.
Last round showed what Clifton baseball is all about, and Head Coach Brian Slater said he liked what he saw.
"We had a little bit of adversity. It's been a while since we've had that situation rise up and I knew we had that toughness and resiliency in us, and it finally came to fruition against Franklin," Coach Slater said. "Taking the first game into 10 innings and then also jumping ahead of us in game two early.... and we were able to fight back and show a little bit of our toughness that was a trademark of our team last year and hopefully will be a trademark of this team."
Game one for the Cubs is set for Thursday at 6 p.m. at Whitehouse High School. Game two will be Friday at 1 p.m.
