WACO, Texas — With the rise of Baylor volleyball through the AVCA poll, excitement for the program has rapidly grown around campus.

"Today's official announcement is that we are now a volleyball school," Baylor athletic director Mack Rhoades said during head football coach Matt Rhule's weekly press conference.

The Bears moved to No. 2 in the AVCA poll, the highest in program history. Prior to this season, the Bears' best ranking was No. 15, set last season. Now the ripple effects of the program's success are being felt. Baylor set a program record for attendance in the Bears battle with Tennessee. On the court, they are now one of only two undefeated teams in the country.

The new poll also marks the first time Baylor has been ranked ahead of every school in the Big 12 conference. This week, Baylor athletes were honored as the Offensive, Defensive and Freshman Players of the Week.

The Bears conclude a five-game homestand Tuesday night, when they host Texas State at the Farrell Center.
