WACO, TX — The Waco Family and Faith International Film Festival, with the help from Extraco Banks, is hosting a community barbecue and back-to-school picnic at the Extraco Banks on Valley Mills in Waco.
Starting at 5:30 p.m., there will be a DJ, free barbecue and back-to-school supplies. This event was always in the works but since COVID-19, it's turned into a drive-thru event.
"We are dedicated to empowering the creative spirit, serving with heart and celebrating all, so our event on the 31st is a part of our serving with heart with our Waco community," Founder, Dr. Tyrha Lindsey-Warren said.
They have 200 backpacks filled with back-to-school essentials to give away for first come, first serve. Along with hamburgers, hot dogs, sausage wraps and other yummy treats.
"We thought it would just be nice to help send them back with a little bit of normalcy and a backpack full of supplies and some great barbecue is a good way to do it," Senior Vice President of Extraco Banks, Sam Brown said.
If you would like to enjoy the barbecue and DJ at Extraco Banks you can, but they ask that you observe social distancing and mask-wearing protocols.
Even though they cannot host their big Waco Film Fest event this year at the Hippodrome, the Waco Family and Faith International Film Fest is still gearing up for the 2021 Waco Film Fest in February. Submissions for that start Aug. 15.
The best way to drive-up and receive some barbecue and backpack would be to enter the Extraco Banks parking lot from the Valley Mills side, and signs will be there to guide you.
