Everyone knows that when applying for jobs, it's all about connections. Workforce Solutions for the Heart of Texas has come up with a way to make those connections from your computer screen.
According to the U.S. Employment and Training Administration, more than 1.8 million Texans filed for unemployment in the last seven weeks. With places still closed down due to the pandemic, it makes it even harder to find jobs.
“Right now my phone’s battery is dead because I sit there on Indeed and just scroll. I don’t know how many I have applied for, really,” said Jo Anna Tawney
Workforce Solutions for the Heart of Texas has come up with a virtual job fair series, so people can still make meaningful connections with future employers while practicing social distancing.
“We have about three to five businesses that are hiring at this time and have immediate openings. They get about ten minutes. Five minutes to describe their positions, their company, qualifications for the job fair. They get five minutes of Q&A for questions and answers for the job seekers logged on,” said Jose Palacios.
The virtual job fair will take place every Thursday at 2:00 pm through a Zoom video conference. Workforce Solutions is now going into their second week with a whole new list of employers.
“We recommend they write down at least one or two questions to ask a particular employer in general or all of the businesses that are on there. We do give them the option to turn the video on during the virtual job fair. They don’t have to, but if they do, we recommend they check there background and make sure their appearance is at least business-like,” said Jose Palacios.
In order to participate, you must preregister online with the Workforce Solutions for the Heart of Texas, because there are limited spots available.
If you did not sign up in time or cannot attend the virtual job fair, you can also go online to view a list of over 150 local job postings.
