After 39 days, six full weeks to be exact, some Central Texas businesses are preparing to reopen.

“We will open in a way that uses safe standards. Safe standards for their businesses and employees, as well as for their customers. Standards based on data and doctors,” said Governor Gregg Abbott.

While restaurants and retail shops can open their doors starting Friday, they can only maintain 25% occupancy. So, what does that look like? And how will it be enforced?

“If their 25% is 20 people, then get ready of every chair except for twenty, then you don’t have to count heads. You know immediately that if all the chairs are taken you are already at max capacity and nobody else can come in. We just want to educate and tell that if we keep this up maybe we can expand to 50% in a few weeks,” said Jeff Booker.

George’s in Waco has already determined a plan in wake of Friday’s reopen. Here is what full occupancy looks like, and here is what it will look like with 25%.

“Every table will maintain the six foot distance rule. We are actually removing several tables at this location in order to do that. We will count guests as they come in in order to keep it under the 25% capacity,” said Chris Cady.

Cady wants to remind customers to be patient and says it will be first come first serve, but prepared to wait.

Salons, barbershops, and gyms will still remain closed until further notice. If you need to find our your business occupancy load, you can contact your local fire department.
