COLLEGE STATION, TX — Harvey Washbangers has been serving great burgers in College Station for 20 years. For the past month, it's been nothing short of a roller coaster.
"Almost on a daily basis the situation was changing and we had to come up with a daily plan," co-owner Michael Liar said.
They haven't just been serving burgers, but their restaurant has a fully operated laundromat. Which has helped tremendously during the pandemic.
"We were able to keep that going and that's been a really nice anchor throughout this store the entire time," Liar said.
You would never think to grab a burger while washing your darks, but you can at this burger joint. Named one of the top 10 weirdest restaurants in America.
"All the other businesses went out of business a long time ago because it's a very unusual and difficult concept to operate," owner, Pete Liar said.
It may be weird, but customer Robert Eisendrath is always excited to grab some grub at Harvey's. He's been supporting local businesses throughout the pandemic but he's happy he gets to sit down and enjoy his meal now.
"I'm grateful for places like this that we can still come and get some food and actually kind of give us a chance to get out of the house," Eisendrath said.
More than happy to be able to stay open for the community, Pete and Michael Liar were most concerned for their employees. Many of them there for more than 5 years. They know how hard it is to keep staff in a college town.
"I think that was our main concern was trying to give our employees something even if it was reduced," Pete Liar said.
Making sure to stay open was giving their employees hope for better days.
For a burger, Harvey Washbangers is open Monday through Sunday 11 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and the laundromat is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
