WACO, TX — The pandemic fueled a spike in gun ownership and one Central Texas business hopes they'll head to their gun range for training, once construction is complete.

This week the foundation will be poured for Republic Gun Club, a 21,000 sq ft., all indoor gun range scheduled to open this summer.

"In the US alone there's been over 7 million new gun owners and these people need training and a place to train," said Owner Terry Flick.

It's a family business for Terry Flick and he's relocating to the Waco area to grow the business.

"I'm falling in love with Waco. It's the big small town. It's definitely here," said Flick.

But this isn't just any gun range. It's the only one of its kind between Dallas and Austin. The site will have 2 bays at 25 yards and 8 lanes each and 1 bay with lanes at 100 yards each. Also, a member's lounge and patio, full-time gunsmith, plus special events.

"I traveled all over the country and modeled RGC off the things I saw that appeals to members. It's for every member of Republic Gun Club," said Flick.

Central Texans are already buying memberships to the club. There are three tiers with increased benefits as you go up plus family and corporate memberships.

"The one thing you don't see anywhere, we have a big bay door. We can pull a car in there. With an instructor you can learn to shoot from that vehicle or get out and engage a target," said Flick.

Plus gun rentals and retail, include machine gun rentals.

"We want the range to be an experience. That's why we built the lounge and patio. We want them to have fun," said Flick.

The business is located off Highway 84 in Woodway. They're expecting to bring around 20 jobs to the area.
