TEMPLE, TX — The coffee is always hot and fresh at Peggy's Coffee House inside the Temple Mall.
Whether you like it brewed or blended, owner Robert Brandenburg and his team have been filling up 'cups of Joe' with all-natural ingredients for 6 years now.
"Interestingly enough, we're known for having too much," Brandenburg said.
But there are two menu items that really stand out.
"Death Wish Coffee, the world's strongest coffee, and Butter Beer which has no coffee which is a Harry Potter based beverage that we've replicated like they serve at the theme park. We've been able to recreate that and that's been a huge hit," Brandenburg said.
When the pandemic hit, suddenly fewer people were going to the mall leaving many worried about their livelihoods.
"I did not want anyone to lose their job and have to fight for unemployment or find another job somewhere so we found a way for everybody to stay on staff," Brandenburg said.
He added a pick-up window to keep things running.
"And in some cases, we even delivered those items to customers so they didn't have to get out of the house and brave what may or may not have been a shopping crowd. As we made effort to take care of them, they made effort to take care of us," Brandenburg said.
The customers that did trickle in, kept them afloat with higher-than-normal tips.
"And there were many times where we just take a breath and think 'wow'. During those times we wouldn't have been able to sustain the way we did without them," Brandenburg said.
The shop's namesake comes from his late mother, Peggy.
"And something I've tried to do here is institute the love and morals that she gave to me and give that to each customer and give them that what we call a Peggy's experience," Brandenburg said.
It seems to be working, keeping his customers coming back to fuel up. Visit them online at Peggyscoffeehouse.com.
