COLLEGE STATION, TX — Layne's Chicken Fingers has been a cult classic to College Station for 25 years.
As they close their dining room to customers, due to the pandemic, they choose to extend their hours to make sure employees get paid.
"I always wanted to stay open for the employees and for the community I felt that it was important to try and continue to do what we've been doing for 25 years here in town," owner, Mike Garrett said.
Garrett doesn't even see closing down as an option. Making sure the chicken need is filled but also being there for his employees.
"You're always having fun while your working and I made a lot of good friends here too," shift leader, Ian Ousley said.
Ousley has worked at Layne's for the past three years while attending college at Texas A&M. He's made great friends in the past years but he also considers the customers friends too.
"Some people come here every single day, and get the same thing and when you see them you know what they're going to get. It's fun to see the same faces day after day year," Ousley said.
Thankfully, switching to drive-thru only was easy for Layne's employees. Even though no one can sit and enjoy their chicken in the restaurant, Garrett is more than grateful for those picking up to-go.
"I feel great that they've continued to support us through this and we are doing our best to stay open for them," Garrett said.
