TEMPLE, TX — La Riv in Temple has been serving up great Tuscany and Umbrian inspired food with an Italian twist for many years.
Of course business was hit hard when the dining room had to close but the owner and head chef Vira Chudasma knew others were in more need than her.
Putting the community first, Chudasma decided to give away free pasta meals, no questions asked, to anyone and everyone that stopped by.
"I just put it on Facebook, hey if anyone wants a free meal for pasta they cannot get it at the store come in and we'll help you," Chudasma said.
Of course the post gained a lot of attention and many reached out for assistance.
"I decided that it's my true calling and it's the right thing to do," Chudasma said.
She saw it was hard to even buy a box of pasta in the grocery stores and she didn't want anyone to go hungry when times are the hardest.
Employee, Kara Cooper, has worked with Chudasma for 6 years she knew Chudasma was always kind but now Cooper sees how big her boss’s heart is.
"I think what she's doing is an incredible and powerful thing," Cooper said.
La Riv was even given a donation to help with the free pasta meals so Chudasma can continue to do what she loves.
As they struggled to stay open in the beginning, they tried all they could with to-go orders. Now with the dining room back open, Chudasma is thinking highly of the future.
"Every single penny counts with. 25% occupancy even though there is less of business, less is better than no business," Chudasma said.
La Riv has given over 500 meals so far and is continuing to do so.
