WACO, TX — Nothing can come in between a Texan and their barbecue, not even a pandemic.

Helberg Barbecue in Waco has been serving up what the locals love, great brisket and so much more.

"We've been so fortunate and so blessed with the people we serve out here in the communities," owner, Phillip Helberg said.

Helberg has always wanted to be a pitmaster.

He says when he got the chance to open a place in Waco he was more than excited.

They've already made a big name for themselves in the Texas barbecue world after only two years.

Helberg Barbecue were even named 2019's Top 25 best new barbecue joints in Texas.

As the pandemic swept through Central Texas, Helberg says he's grateful for not only the customers, but the staff that has stuck with him through hard times.

"They've been really big champs just as far as getting trained on new things all the time and just taking a lot of new information," Helberg said.

Customer, Jay Parker has always enjoyed Helberg's and is even more happy to be enjoying his meal while sitting down, even with the 25% capacity.

"You see that only 25% and honestly, things aren't any more or less rushed it's just less people," Parker said.

With opening up the dining room, Helberg has seen an increase in business, but that doesn't mean things are back to normal.

"Thank you, really we're just extremely extremely appreciative from the support we've seen from our customers," Helberg said.

Restaurants have always been there for us when we're hungry, and now these places are hungry to stay open.

They need the continued help and support of their community.

Helberg is open Wednesday/Thursday 11 a.m. till 3 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. till 8 p.m. and Sunday 11 am till 2 p.m.

Sometimes they sell out before closing!
