GATESVILLE, TX — In Gatesville, a boutique inside the Baker's Market is making a statement and growing in spite of the pandemic.
Sara Jo's Haute and Gaudy is bold, vibrant and fun!
"I always say I'm Sara Jo's haute and gaudy not Sarah Jo's plain and simple," said owner Sara Jo Poynter.
It all started with a trip to get her hair done.
"I started with $300 in my pocket. I went to my sister's house to get my hair done and she had a dress that had a tag for $67 on it and I said why would you pay that much for something when you know where they get it. So I went to Dallas market and bought $300 worth of clothes and turned around and sold it in 24 hours on Facebook and it's just evolved from there," she said.
Selling mostly online, at markets and pop-up shopping events, the boutique now has a spot inside the Baker's Market.
"I've been in business for 8 years and this past May, Danny said would you like to be part of the Baker's Market and I said shoot yes. I will take you up on that offer," said Sara.
But May was in the middle of the pandemic.
"I think I was in for a month and then I had to move out for almost a month and I moved right back in. I took over a little bit more so I could have a bigger area," said Sara.
Sara keeps it affordable, fun and fills the racks with new inventory all the time.
"Gatesville has been great at supporting this store. It's given the people of Gatesville to shop touch and feel. Not everyone can come to my pop-ups. I do a lot of pop-ups as fundraisers so that's been really nice for the community," said Sara.
As a small business owner, her motto is, "If it's meant to be it's up to me." Sara says 2021 is meant to be a great year!
"We are small but we are mighty," she said.
