WACO, TX — One local business, Cherry on Top, is known for its delicious coffee cake that is only sold during the holiday season. However, customers started asking for it at the start of the pandemic.

For owner Sherri Cherry, baking and cooking has been a tradition in her family for generations.

"I grew up with a mom who was a good cook and a grandmother, and anytime anything happened, a birth of a child or a sickness, here we would go on the station wagon, my brothers and I loaded up with pies and cakes," said Cherry.

Her family enjoyed sharing their gift and making goodies for others. Cherry is no different, she was always making cakes for loved ones and soon, enough people were asking where they could buy it.

"I was actually a speech therapist at the time and I just wanted something else to do during the holiday, and it's grown and I love it," she said.

Over the years, her business, Cherry on Top, soared across the state and now the country. She would always sell during the holiday season but says the pandemic changed that.

"I've always done November and December but my customers started calling me when this pandemic hit and said, "I can't make it to my grandfather's birthday, can you send him a cake?"" said Cherry.

Now she is selling year-round and hopes her baked goodies will make some families smile during the coronavirus pandemic.

"I've been blessed with it really," she said.
