Police departments from across McLennan County took part in the ceremony. It included a helicopter flyover and short service.

Thurday's roll call included 30 officers from agencies including the Waco Police Department, McLennan County Sheriff's Office, McLennan County Constable's Office, Mart Police Department, U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, Lorena Police Department, McLennan Community College Police Department and West Police Department.

Waco PD sergeant Garen Bynum hosted the event.

"They paved the way for us, we've learned from them," Bynum said of the fallen officers.

"They have paid the ultimate sacrifice, and the least I can do is show up on a beautiful day and honor their name and honor their families."

Families of fallen officers were able to place a flower on the city's Peace Officer Memorial during the ceremony.

The event will be held each year as part of National Police Week.
