More Wacoans than ever are turning to the mic to talk about art, comedy and music.
Keep Waco Loud launched its brand new podcast January 6, 2020.
"The music scene in Waco is as diverse as the population in Waco, and we want everyone else to know about it," said KWL's Katie Selman.
The first episode featured Creative Waco's Fiona Bond, comedian Terry Blues, KWL's Jacob Green, Katie Selman and Travvis Scott.
Bluez also launched a podcast with fellow Waco comedian Onterio Linville called "Bluezville."
"The way Waco is transitioning, they have all these opportunities. They have an art scene and a film scene. So it's really about getting into those circles because if you're not in the conversation you're left out," said Bluez.
An estimated 800,000 podcasts entertained listeners in 2019. The growth is explosive and no surprise. 51% of the US population has listened to a podcast. They tend to be loyal, affluent and educated.
Waco is tuning in. The Waco Famous Podcast will launch the first week of 2020 as well and joins a handful of successful podcasts focused on unique stories and talent in the heart of Texas.
The Rogue Media Network in Waco is hosting a podcast competition. The finalists will get a logo design, social media set-up, recording and editing of up to 10 of the first episodes and much more. Registration opens January 8th and the Podcast Pitch Competition Day is January 26th at 3 pm at Nexus ESports in Waco.
